Weekend Package!

Schweine Ohren.

What's that?  The actual translation is "pig ears".  No, they did not send us home with actual pigs ears... However, that would be interesting... kinda... These are pastries in which the shape resembles pigs ears... which I really don't see, but let me know what you think!

Do you see it??? Maybe?  Either way, they are wonderful layered pastry that is sweet and flaky with a hint of cinnamon and covered with a glaze.

What's going on in the bakery?
Well, I found out last week that I will be taking part in a showpiece competition.  We are to create a large showpiece only out of dough.  This competition is hosted by Bäko, which is Germany's leading wholesaler of bakery and confectionery items.  I don't know all of the exact rules and regulations, because while this was being explained to me, I was desperately trying to figure out what "Schaustücke" was.  After figuring out that Schaustück is a direct translation to "Showpiece," half of the conversation was finished and I was still at the the beginning.  We will see how this turns out this week, and I of course will keep you all updated!

  1. Good luck!

And: Turn the "Schweineohren" around... then you'll have a left and a right ear, without the head in the middle. It'd be interesting to find out where they got their name... (I love them without the sugar coating, with the tips dipped in dark chocolate.)
