I hear they're making a comeback. I was sent this from my boss a few days ago, Callebaut- Whoopie Pies
I decided I had to try them out because Whoopie Pies are:
1. Delicious
2. Are from the North East of the U.S. (Pennsylvania Amish)
3. An American treat that makes me feel like home
The recipe (which can be found here) called for 4mm sized dots to be pipe out. 4mm?! Do you know how small that is? It's 0.16 of an inch. That seemed a little small to me. So I tested out a few different sizes. Being all American and everything I decided that bigger would be better.
My cakes turned out a little flat, for my liking, but they sure were moist! I think I could have added a bit more baking powder... next time...
I decided for the filling to be a meringue. I thought it would be a great contrast to the chocolate cake, and the chocolate coating that I put on top.
In my opinion, Whoopie Pies could catch on like cupcakes. Though they have been around for ages, the possibilities with these little treats of heaven are endless!
they look nice right out of lancaster!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am really looking forward to testing these cute creations this afternoon. Your Spanish fan. J.
ReplyDeleteVery cool - they look fantastic. Love your blog in general... and BTW: those whoopies in the recipe were to be piped to 4cm (1.5in - I think good enough size for the purpose) not 4mm (waaay too smal :-)
